Ruth Chepngetich outlasted the heat and the field to win 2019 IAAF World Championships Marathon. The Kenyan won the six-lap course in 2:32:43. She defeated defending champion Rose Chelimo by over a minute.
Roberta Groner was the top American, finishing sixth in 2:38:44. The 41-year-old worked with U.S. teammate Carrie Dimoff for the first half. Dimoff finished 13th in 2:44:35.
Despite starting at midnight, the temperature in Doha, Qatar, was over 90 degrees. In all 68 women started the race, and only 32 women broke 3 hours.
