I am offering for sale a rare 1967 and a half Austin Mini Cooper S that has only had two owners throughout its lifetime.. What I think makes this car rare is that it was purchased new in january of 1968 by a Mr. Taylor who then registered and drove it in North Carolina from 1968 until 2004.
I then bought it a few years ago with several Minis and parts that Mr Taylor collected and raced. I had this car that was in pretty sad shape totally redone to a very nice fun to drive car while trying my best to keep everything that was original to the car with the car. So it is not a total concourse restoration, just a restoration that keeps it as true to the original parts as possible. I have had to change the seat covers to brand new as they were rotted. I will include the original covers and a bunch of the original parts and pieces. It does have a full size brand new spare tire. and…It is still Positive ground. The major item I changed was to remove the hydro suspension for the more popular coils and shocks which adds to the performance and reliability.
Speaking of performance….In my opinion a Classic Mini Cooper S is the most fun car to drive at the legal speed limit period. With its 1275 cc engine and original twin SU carbs through the a quick four speed gearbox….It is so torquey and punchy, handles like a go kart and is so much fun to drive on back country roads. Plus, I have driven several fancy, or exotic collectible cars, but by far you will get the most attention, questions, or thumbs up in a Classic Mini.
I have owned and fixed up several British sports cars including a few minis. I am a total Mini enthusiast. So much so that I was in a rock band and we would drive a mini onto stage and we hung one up from our light truss as a part of the show.
So back to the car.
This is an authentic 1967 and a half Austin Mini Cooper S. It is a very early Mark 2 model. It was the 1497th mark 2 model off the line. I have the British Motor Industry Heritage trust Certificate to prove the cars authenticity as well as all of the records, the original purchase invoice and the original owners manual. Minis were rare in the united states. We did not import many from new. Add on to that the fact that only one man registered and owned this car for about 55 years until I took it over and rebuilt it.
It was rough but I had it professionally rebuilt by another mini enthusiast who replaced any rust with new steel, and painstakingly repaired anything that needed to be replaced to make this a fun and reliable driver.
This is not a concourse quality car. I have probably put 400 fun miles on this car in the last two years. This is a local car show winning car with great looking paint and authenticity that will get lots of attention at any local car show. It is always a crowd favorite, especially if you pile 5 adult men and women in the car who pour out in front of the crowd. I am 6 foot 3 and 240 pounds and I fit in this thing just fine.
You do not want to let this car pass you by. It is way too much fun to not own at least one during your lifetime. I am in Franklin TN just south of Nashville. I would love to show it to you and let you drive it for yourself. But if you drive it, you will most likely buy it.
